Nature didn't want to
publish his paper...
I remember when my son
was being evaluated for
physical growth percentile
by our pediatric group.
They wanted to treat him
with hormones, because he
was at the 20th percentile
for growth.
I refused.
I explained:
People develop at different rates...
for example, I'm 40 years old,
and my beard is still coming in.
The young, bearded pediatrician scowled at me
with narrowed eyes...
The lead pediatrician pressed me
on hormone treatments for my son...
At this rate, he might only grow
to 5'6" or 5'7"...
"THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE !"
"Doctor", I said,
"I am 5'-7-1/2", and his mother
is 5'-2"...
His predicted height seems
perfectly natural."
(Additlonally, that Pediatrician
was about 5'-7"...)
So:
How did my son turn out ..?
In Grammar School, he was an A student, active on the swimming team, Little League Baseball, and Basketball, his team winning the
City Championship.
In his Jesuit High School, he was on
the diving team,
and continued his Academic excellence,
earning a scholarship to the
University of Rochester.
He finished up at UB, and
is now a Systems Analyst for
Deloitte, a 180 year old Big Four
Accounting firm that services
90% of the Fortune 500.
He is married, with children.
I think he turned out alright.
I doubt that Pediatric Hormone
Treatment would have helped...
