PS.

Download Chuck's 1996 SimWPD

The 1990's form of 00Cedar !

It doesn't build html,

It doesn't use a beanlist

It doesn't blog...

It builds ADVENTURE files

as .WPD

Type 00SimWPD after you

extract it with RAR, etc...

Type H for help screen

with commands.

Commands are "z" format

Instead of dot "." Format...

To see the file, type zout

To modify one line type zmodify

To build type zbuild.

That's what I wrote

back in 1996-2000

for "my kids"

enjoy !

00SimWPD, and 00Cedar

do not exactly replicate

the Text Adventure ADVENT,

because text pages are not

a "program",  they are a screen

description for your "browser"...

It's not a "PORT".

(a port is a machine translation

of a program from one system

to another.)

I wrote it in a completely different

way from the 1960's Colossal Cave.

00Cedar makes a modifiable environment that YOU can

build and change.

Unlike the "FIXED ENVIRONMENT"

of Colossal Cave...

Don't see a battery vending machine ?

Don't see a Dragon ?

Well...

Write the beans YOURSELF

and challenge your friends !

They can write their own versions

with different logical challenges !

It's easy to build new "rooms"

with the .BA command.

or "blog" with the .B command.

The html syntax is handled by

the H command...

All the 00Cedar commands and

usages are in my How-To:

Compare the traditional

programming method

( They call this "easy...") Watch!

My good friend and Best Man

Robert Valentine Hanzlian

introduced me to Adventure

in the late '70s, in an

After Midnight session

at NanoData Corp.

on their QM1 minicomputer.

It played through a TELETYPE !

Back in 1982, while I was learning

Pascal at the University of Buffalo,

I had a $30 dollar Timex-Sinclair

1000 computer.

Starting with the game Wumpus,

Typed in from a book...

I began writing Adventures.

I was rebuilding a surplus TI-99a

keyboard to attach to my Timex.

I picked up an old IBM electric typewriter, with thoughts of building

an electromechanical keyboard driver for it...

Perhaps for keypunches, too.

My Pascal Linked List Text editor

in keypunched Hollerith cards

was about 3 inches thick.

It worked.

an $89 dollar Commodore64

with a $49 dollar floppy drive

dismissed my Timex plans.

Adventure, or ADVENT

was based on a REAL CAVE

SIMULATION...!

Willie Crowther wrote it

for his kids...

just as I wrote SimulaWPD

for my kids...

DEC put ADVENT on DECUS

their early user group social media.

Techs used it to check

the functionality of

newly installed PDP-11's and Vax's

IBM put ADVENT on the

original IBM PC

The PC came with

Dos, and Basic,

and ADVENT...

Remember,

back in 1981...

PC monitors were

Monochrome Text.

There were no

Video Cards,

and no SOFTWARE !

ADVENT was given

as an example...

For YOU

to write your own "apps".

Osborne

put ADVENT on

their 8-bit Transportable

It was the size of a

Portable Sewing machine,

with a 5" AMBER screen,

2 5-1/4" floppies,

a modem,

and CP/M

RadioShack had a TRS-80 version

My friend Bob Bajac

from Hutch Tech

had a TRS-80...

"Original" Colossal Cave

Bob Supnik translated Advent for DEC

2 Timothy 14

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene
