Potatoes are the powerhouse of nutrition to the humans’ bodies. The facts supporting this statement are very simple. Potatoes are a natural source of vitamin C and B6, copper, potassium manganese, pantothenic acids, other dietary fibers, and many other good nutrients making it perfect for people on diet. Potatoes are loaded with phytonutrients that have useful antioxidants. However, sweet potatoes are richer and denser in nutrients than all the other varieties of regular potatoes. Thus, they have much higher and healthier benefits. Sweet potatoes are good in antioxidant properties as they are filled with vitamins like A, vitamin C, and B6. Potato diet rules for diabetes patients only and only when potatoes and sweet potatoes are taken in the right portion size. The plate should not be stuffed with starchy foods fully but the only 1/4th, as anything more than that can disturb the blood sugar levels for the diabetic patient. Diabetics should eat slightly sautéed, grilled or boiled forms of potatoes only and try to avoid mashed and deep-fried potatoes. Eating the potato skins are important too as it contains vitamin B, vitamin C, iron, calcium, potassium, and many other nutrients.

Experts too say that to lose weight by eating just potatoes, you have to take precautions as well. Such as no other food is allowed in an abundant amount while you are on the diet of eating potatoes to lose weight. However, to add a little taste to your potato dishes you can add a very small amount of Himalayan pink salt or sea salt as it is really good for digestion. One can drink black tea or coffee and herbal teas without adding any sugar or milk to it. Take your regular medications for diabetes but adding other health supplements with the potato diet are not very encouraged. If you are not willing to go on a strict potato diet, probably not recommended to people suffering from diabetes, you could still be adding potatoes for your weight loss diet. Even the European Food Information Council claims that eating or consuming plain boiled potato is healthy as potato is a very important vegetable, which means it helps to keep your stomach and hunger full for a longer period of time. This benefit of potatoes is considered a useful aspect because when you're trying to eat less to weigh down your waistline or shed some weight, it is good to have nutritious food.


A potato diet plan is a short-term eating plan of approximately 3 to 5 days to help improve digestion, health, and weight loss. Potatoes can be given different shapes, sizes, and flavors to the boring plain potatoes and make them delicious in various ways. However, some experts tell you to avoid yams, french fries, tater tots, hash browns, and potato chips which is true because these may consume more oil that will add up to your weight drowning all the other benefits of going on a weight loss path.
