TULPAMANCY IN GLOWFIC

So, Mary has a tulpa (plural tulpae, using Latin -- actions that involve creating, forcing, or otherwise interacting with one's tulpa are termed tulpamancy) named Heidi! (Conversely, Heidi has a host named Mary). 

Glowfic has some precedents of multiple characters inhabiting the same body, for magical reasons or otherwise, and I would argue that sometimes they look more like tulpae than instances of characters with DID (which is often accompanied by fugue states) or multiple personality (which does not always distinguish between the "creator" and the "created").

So, does Mary's body count as more than one person?

It depends on what your measure of "person" is, and people already assign different moral value to eg. animals, fetuses and small children. Heidi in any form can express a desire to exist as opposed to not-exist, but a person could still reasonably assign value to "individual brains" instead of "individual minds within that brain" -- Mary's not judging. Although it would be rude to insist that Heidi is not a person while Mary and Heidi are around, on the order of intentionally not using someone's preferred pronouns. 

Does Mary advocate people making tulpae?

Mary advocates EXTREME CAUTION with respect to creating a tulpa -- insisting and repeating that it is a responsibility on the order of having a child, regardless of the lack of material cost involved. This is because tulpae are permanent and are always there with you and you want to think very carefully about making someone with whom you will inevitably share such a close relationship.

I feel weird about the level of control hosts theoretically have over their tulpae!

Mary does too, with the caveat that she believes that tulpae become more independent and less beholden to the whims of their hosts as they develop, and certainly past the point where someone might term them sentient. Mary (intuitively, she hasn't worked out the math) measures sentience on a spectrum that is positively correlated with independence and volition vis a vis the host's preferences and impulses. Heidi has a more precise measure that she's still working on and is reluctant to share, in case it's incorrect, and because she's concerned about how her thoughts might affect the beliefs that people have about tulpae.

Mary also believes that people who make tulpae should make tulpae who want to exist, and who furthermore are happy existing as tulpae, and that giving a tulpa a personality that does not mesh with their existence as a tulpa would be very, very stupid.

If Heidi could have a corporeal body that is separate from Mary's, would she want to?

Heidi would want to have a corporeal body if she could variously have one and not have one, depending on her mood. Existing in the real world all the time sounds exhausting to her. 

She would also be cautiously positive about being magicked to be visible to other people, given that normally when she "appears" she is only visible to Mary.

Mary is instantiated in a world that is not Earth-analogous! Does Heidi still exist, given that Mary may never have heard of the word "tulpa"?

Especially-sentient-seeming imaginary friends or created-characters are common to many cultures, so there is a lot of room for Heidi to exist even if she isn't called a "tulpa" -- particularly since Mary has an attractor for making the series of mental leaps that allow Heidi to pass various sapience and independence thresholds. In these cases Mary and Heidi make up their own nomenclature, which differs depending on the instantiation.

Mary does not tend to instantiate in worlds where the culture expressly forbids tulpae or otherwise makes their creation impossible. 

How does Heidi exist in universes with familiars or daemons?

In any universe with daemons, Mary would have a non-Heidi daemon, and would create Heidi sometime later, with her own (subjectively perceived) daemon. 

In a universe with familiars, Mary and Heidi share the same familiar unless it is magically possible to give Heidi her own familiar.

Do you (Tricky) have a tulpa?

Nope. And I'm not planning to make one at present. 

How is having a tulpa different from having an "awake" character?

I personally believe that hosts decide to have tulpae, and that an "awake" character does not have to have actionable preferences about the glowficcer's daily life. Given this, an "awake" character would be very easily made into a tulpa, but is probably not one -- especially if the host would be averse to the idea. 

Some FAQs, including the one on tulpa.info and the one on reddit, say that someone can accidentally create a tulpa, and that this normally comes in the form of a roleplayed character or an imaginary friend. I'm skeptical of this, considering that tulpamancy relies so heavily on belief. It doesn't make sense to me that someone can have a tulpa before knowing that tulpae, in general, exist.

Do Mary's views on Tulpamancy, as expressed in this guide or elsewhere in-character, reflect your (Tricky's) own?

Mary believes making a tulpa is more difficult than I believe it is, partially because she tends to be isolated from communities that make tulpae. She also tends to emphasize the visualization aspect when she explains how tulpamancy works -- more than than many hosts + tulpae believe is necessary.
