SMART-PHONE CB RADIO "CHANNEL 99" This is an experimental system to try and duplicate old CB Radio via a SMARTPHONE application called ZELLO. If you are on the "road again" just put up a printed-off paper sign in your cab window, or tell verbally, another driver to go to tinyurl.com/cbradio99 on his/her SmartPhone and just follow the instructions there. "Hey meet me on channel 99..." First you'll need to download the ZELLO application for your Android smart phone or PC. Click here to do that (http://www.zello.com). When you do that you will need to setup your username (use your CB handle) and password there. After that go to the Zello App and select TOOLS>ADD CHANNEL... (actual channel names listed below in bold): Only choose regions you'll know you'll be driving through soon.
CB Radio (Calling Channel) [Ch99] A CB Radio simulator for truckers USA nationwide. Sit on this channel and wait for calls or call out from here and then move to another channel.

You could search for these channels in the ZELLO search engine or just type them in by hand. Copy & pasting (Highlight, CTRL-C, and then CTRL-V for PC's only) from here to ZELLO works too. Once you set these ZELLO channels up, you will need a password to use them. We password protected them to keep trolls, spammers, and creeps out.
The password is: cbradio
Once you get to the calling channel [99] you could open up by saying: "This is [CB handle] on Route [wherever] in [city and state] and [direction of travel]".
Example: "This is GraveDigger-181 on I-95 south bound out of Baltimore MD. Who we got out there?"
While there on the calling channel 99, you may want to change to a different channel to cut down on the overloading of the calling channel 99. Try channel CH1 through CH6 that is in the region of USA where you are. You may even run into a local person geographically close to you.
You can use PTT (push to talk) or VOX (voice operation) in ZELLO - just like old CB RADIO. There is no full duplex. It is all SIMPLEX.
ZELLO will work NATIONWIDE USA and in Canada and Mexico (actually worldwide). If you want one of those fancy retro Smart-Phone CB hand-mikes click here (http://zello.com/accessories.htm) or cheaper version click here (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/edd5/).
You can also use a Bluetooth PTT keyer and use the smartphone's built-in microphone and speaker. They are cheaper and available above or at your local department store used for triggering your Smartphone's camera shutter release. You can mount them on your steering wheel or anywhere you want.
