Managing SimpleText Dropbox Files – Workflow Guide

Managing SimpleText Dropbox Files – Workflow Guide

Many SimpleText users appreciate the app’s simplicity but face a common limitation:
Dropbox mandates that app data be stored in the /Apps/SimpleTxtEditor folder, which can make organizing and accessing notes across platforms less intuitive.

This guide offers a workaround using AutoSync and a secondary cloud service to automatically transfer SimpleText notes into a preferred Dropbox folder structure.

Overview of the Workflow
The goal is to automate moving SimpleText notes from Dropbox’s /Apps folder to a user-defined folder (e.g., /Documents/Notes).
This is achieved by syncing through a secondary cloud (like Google Drive) using AutoSync on Android.

Tools Required
- AutoSync Ultimate (by MetaCtrl)
- Dropbox account linked to SimpleText
- Google Drive (or another supported cloud service)

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Create two local folders on your Android device (e.g., /SyncTemp and /SyncFinal).

2. Set up AutoSync folder pairs as follows:

Dropbox ➜ Local (Temp Folder)

• Sync from /Apps/SimpleTxtEditor to /SyncTemp

• Sync Method: Two-way sync

Local (Temp Folder) ➜ Google Drive

• Sync /SyncTemp to /SimpleTextBridge

• Sync Method: Upload only

Google Drive ➜ Local (Final Folder)

• Sync /SimpleTextBridge to /SyncFinal

• Sync Method: Download then delete

- Wait before delete: 7 days
- Delete permanently (skip Google Drive trash)

Local (Final Folder) ➜ Dropbox

• Sync /SyncFinal to /Documents/Notes

• Sync Method: Upload only

Result
- SimpleText notes are automatically moved into a user-friendly Dropbox folder.
- No manual intervention required after setup.
- Google Drive acts as a temporary bridge without long-term storage.

Notes

- This method is ideal for users wanting more control over their Dropbox structure.
- AutoSync offers flexibility with scheduling and file filters.
- Ensure cloud services have sufficient storage and permissions.

Google Drive is used as a transit hub. A 7-day delay ensures safe transfer before automatic cleanup.

Review on the PlayStore:

SimpleText is a gem for minimal, distraction-free note-taking.
It integrates with Dropbox. However, on Dropbox the SimpleText files are saved in the default /Apps folder.
This makes file organisation, ease of access, a bit trouble.

This inconvenience can be patched with apps like AutoSync, which is able to set up a "cloud bridge" (e.g. GDrive) so all your SimpleText files end up where you like them to go on your hard drive. HowTo: https://justpaste.it/sl-st
