Mumbai: In Pune, Maharashtra, an elderly man has been scammed out of more than five lakh rupees. The 71-year-old got caught in a scam while trying to return a faulty phone charger, leading to a significant financial loss.
In fact, the elderly man from Sahakar Nagar, Pune, had purchased a phone charger from a well-known e-commerce site. After some use, when the charger stopped working, he decided to return it to the company. For this, he searched for the company's customer care number online.
While searching for the customer care number online, the elderly man came across a fake customer care number. He explained that when he contacted that number, the scammer claimed to be an official from the relevant e-commerce site. The scammer first gained the elderly man's trust and then said that a verification process would be required to complete the return process.
