This question comes up regularly in housing societies.

Are committee members paid for their services?

The short answer is usually no.

But the bigger discussion is governance.

𝟭. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆: Managing Committee members are elected representatives, not salaried employees.
𝟮. 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Their role is fiduciary responsibility, not operational execution.
𝟯. 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸: Compensation can raise questions around impartiality and decision-making.
𝟰. 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀: Maintenance collections are generally meant for repairs, utilities, reserves, and compliance.
𝟱. 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱: Official expenses can be reimbursed when documented and approved properly.
𝟲. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Separate professional services require disclosure, approvals, and conflict checks.
𝟳. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Weak documentation and unstructured decisions create bigger problems than compensation.
