How it started...
April 2016
The Woodland Trust seeks funding to plant a new forest.
The forest would be named "Jutland Memorial Forest".
The story of the Battle of Jutland is part of the story of my ancestry.
It was the largest sea battle in known history until today.
World War 1: The German Kriegsmarine facing off the British Imperial Navy.
Why might there not be a "Jutland Memorial Forest" in Britain?
The fundraising page was removed soon after I contacted The Woodland Trust...
This is what I wrote about the affair few years later:
I got interested in sponsoring and naming a tree after my paternal grandfather when the Woodland Trust announced the project to create a forest commemorating the Battle of Jutland, the largest sea battle ever. Each sailor who had died would give his name to a tree. I was however puzzled by the numbers the Woodland Trust mentioned so I contacted them.
It turned out they were only counting the British sailors that died; not the German ones.
I suggested to include all sailors and turn the forest into a contemporary pan European commemoration.
That was before the Brexit referendum.
That was before the Brexit referendum.
Might have shot down the project as I couldn't see it on the Woodland Trust's website anymore afterwards.
A missed chance to place war in its right perspective and allow grieving across old borders.
... and how did you become a Lord?
Well, after facing many battles against warmongering states I decided to help to re-green
the nation of Scotland that has faced centuries of English pillaging and plunder.
By buying a plot of land in Scotland I acquired not just a deed but also the title of "Laird".
"Laird" translates from Scottish to "Lord", "Lord of the Manor", in English.
