Drinkaware is transitioning to a new model, based on the Drinkaware Trust in the UK. This will see continued collaboration with the UK organisation, as well as a broad range of partners including Government agencies, retailers, community groups, healthcare professionals and the wider alcohol industry.

Drinkaware is hiring a small team to support its Director in delivering an ambitious strategy 2015-2018.  Critical to this strategy is Drinkaware’s new focus on education, which will be led by our Education Programme Manager working in partnership with our Education Specialist and a dedicated project steering group.   

The Education Programme Manager’s role will focus on developing Drinkaware’s education programme targeted at young people, parents and teachers. 

This is a one-year, full-time position, with the potential for renewal for a second year.  Salary is €35,000. 

Job description

The Education Programme Manager will:

  • Manage relationships with relevant stakeholders including the Department of Education, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, the Professional Development Service for Teachers, the Teacher Unions, the CSPE / SPHE teachers’ associations, the Principals’ and parents’ networks, the teacher training colleges and other relevant stakeholders
  • Manage a steering group of relevant stakeholders to direct development of Drinkaware’s education programme
  • Gather research to provide a robust evidence-base for the education approach selected and adopted by Drinkaware in developing its programme materials and content
  • Work with the Education Specialist and steering group to develop an education programme for delivery as part of the SPHE curriculum in secondary schools
  • Develop all necessary resources to accompany the programme, including lesson plans, online materials and teachers’ manual
  • Engage and work with a small number of schools to participate in a pilot to test and refine the programme in its first year
  • Commission and manage evaluation of the pilot programme roll-out.

 

Person specification

  • Third level qualification in an education related field, ideally teaching (h-Dip) or teaching related (e.g. humanities at a teaching college)
  • 3 years’ experience in education practice or policy
  • Strong writing skills and experience of developing practical educational tools e.g. lesson plans, online content and teacher training manuals
  • Strong computer skills and ability to develop and manage content online
  • Experience of commissioning and managing supplier relationships
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Existing networks and relationships in the education space
  • A personal commitment to the values and work of Drinkaware and to addressing the issue of alcohol related harm in Ireland.
