Demona had phrased the idea of going to Elizabeth's grave as something for Eddie, and at the end of it all, it really was something that she thought he needed. There was no telling how long it would be before they were back, and she thought a small bit of the past might help him see that not much has changed. She would've been lying, though, if she said she hadn't wanted a reason to go to that grave in specific. Eddie always spoke highly of his mother, and she hoped that she would've accepted Demona like he had. Her own mother had tried desperately to get Demona to change into the 'perfect daughter' rather than the rebellious freak that she was, but the idea that Eddie's mother would've liked her for who she was? Would've welcomed her into the family without questioning her clothes or music?? It was a thought that Demona had never voiced, but one that had gotten her through several fights with her mother when the two had still lived in Hawkins. She could still feel the way the winter snow felt against her knees that January when she had run away from home for a few hours to talk to Elizabeth on her own, explaining the fight with her mother before finally going back to Eddie's trailer. He had questioned her on how long she had been outside, given how cold her skin had been by that point, but she had never told him the truth.

So when Eddie asked if they could leave, for the first time, Demona answered him with silence. Her eyes were still locked on the grave, a thousand thoughts flooding through her head. She wanted to tell Elizabeth all about California -- about how it was just as depressing as she had remembered it being. She wanted to tell her all about how she had fought hard for Eddie -- to make sure she knew he was loved. She wanted to thank her for raising Eddie the way she had, for showing him how to care and how to accept people, unlike her own family had done with her brother. All of those thoughts had to remain inside, though. She couldn't let Eddie know just how attached she was to his mother that she had never met, and after a moment, she looked over in Eddie's direction, eyes down to the dirt at his feet.

"Yeah, I've said all I needed to say." Ignoring how quiet her own voice sounded to herself (and blaming the emptiness around them), Demona pushed herself back up to her feet before holding out her hand. She could see her ring glittering in the moonlight, but for once, the weight of it on her hand wasn't on the front of her mind. Eddie wanted to leave, and if she stayed much longer, she knew she wouldn't be able to stop herself from starting to ramble on to a woman she had never even known.

"Let's go home."
