The Cloud...

What is it ?

Every now and then, the Media

changes terms...

It can be Confusing.

What is the Cloud, and how does

it differ from the Internet ?

Well ...

What is the Internet ?

Originally called the ARPANET,

the Internet is a widespread collection of computer devices,

that are connected to each other

by communication links, originally

Dial-up phone connections.

So...

That's the Internet.

What about the World Wide Web ?

Well, that's the Internet as most of us know it...

The WWW is a collection of

WEB-SERVERS on the Internet,

that provide Hyperlinked HTML

pages from their Server Computers.

Server Computers have storage,

and content, and programs, and upload storage.

So...

What about the Cloud..?

The Cloud (s) are a collection

of specialized Web-Servers

That have Storage, and upload

space, and programs, and

Cloud Computing capability.

The Cloud doesn't just provide

Web-Pages..

The Cloud provides Super-Computer

computational power to the users.

The Cloud is less like a dial-up

Web Page provider of the 1990's...

It is more like a

that would allow you to access another computer several offices away, and RUN PROGRAMS on that computer.

Using That BIG Computer's computational power !

The Cloud services are accessed

through Apps that you have on your

Local Computer.

Through those Apps, the Cloud Storage looks like another drive

on your computer.

There is concern that the Cloud is rather fragile, the major market Cloud Providers have no backup for their systems...

Companies like IBM provide

Hybrid Cloud solutions, which

include a local Mainframe, which

backs up the Cloud Storage as it is being used, and can provide

Local Computation and storage,

in the event of any disruption

of the Cloud access.

In a Tiny way, 00Cedar provides

similar functions, building and

storing LOCAL HTML PAGES,

which can be accessed in the event

of Internet outages.

00Cedar does not serve to the Web

directly, you have to invest the effort

to build On-Line replicas, or to build

Local Pages that summarize Online Pages.

When we played ADVENTURE in the

Late 1970's, we were dialing into

some BIG COMPUTER, and using the Storage and Computational Power

of that Computer.

When most of us use our Smartphones and Computers,

we are simply using them as

DUMB TERMINALS to the Internet.

00Cedar unlocks the unused Computational power of your Smartphone.
