The 36-year-old batting maestro, who has etched his name alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, recently spoke about his future in the sport. Champions Trophy Success Fuels Speculation

His recent performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he amassed 218 runs at an impressive average of 54.50, including a century against Pakistan, fueled speculation about a potential retirement announcement. India's triumphant, undefeated run in the tournament, coupled with the earlier T20I retirement of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, had fans on edge.

While Rohit Sharma quickly clarified his intentions to continue playing, the spotlight turned to Kohli.

Kohli's Perspective: Joy Over Achievements

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit powered by Leaders, Kohli revealed his current mindset. "Today, I am not playing for achievements. It pretty much comes down to the pure joy of playing," he stated. "As long as that feeling is intact, I will continue playing. I have to be honest about that with myself."

He also shared a valuable piece of advice from former coach Rahul Dravid: "He said one always has to stay in touch with oneself to figure out where one is placed in life."

And then, with a clear and direct message, Kohli put the retirement rumors to rest: "Don’t get nervous; I am not making any announcements. As of now, everything seems fine."

Eyes on the IPL 2025 Prize

The only major title eluding Kohli is the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy. A loyal member of Royal Challengers Bengaluru since the inaugural 2008 season, he stands as the league's highest run-scorer. Now, his focus shifts to IPL 2025, where he aims to finally clinch the coveted title.

RCB's campaign kicks off on March 22nd against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, promising an electrifying start to the tournament. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief – Virat Kohli's journey in cricket is far from over.
