Who are we?
As a species we are relatively new on the stage of life in the Universe. Many species, like cockroaches, have been around longer and have more claim to the planet, than we do. And yet we have managed to impose ourselves as the dominant species on it.
What is the reason for this?
"The brain," you say. True.
"Speech." True.
"Hands." And hands.
"Wheel." And wheel.
You can go on listing until tomorrow and you will always be right. But again, with all this abundant evidence, perhaps you will miss one thing, perhaps because it is too obvious, Free Will.
"What free will?" you ask yourself. "Does it mean that I can do what I want and I have no responsibility?"
No, it means something else.
Free will is a feature of the human species, expressed by the ability to choose and make one's own decisions.
"Nothing special," you might think. "Everyone can do that."
No, not everyone.
Most species, not just on Earth but throughout the Universe, do not have the gift of Free Will. They have a complex of instincts, characteristics, knowledge, and talents that make them different from others. Some of them are below, and many are above, the current level of human consciousness. All of them, more or less developed than us, have one major drawback, the absence of free will.
Roughly speaking, they are the mind that can think and act within the boundaries of the program that makes them what they are. This program, no matter how developed and high-quality it is, still limits their consciousness to the level of a useful machine.
In contrast, the human species has the gift and ability of unlimited Free Will and unlimited development of consciousness. We are given complete freedom of choice, the greatest gift of the Universe, so that we can study and know ourselves. Unfortunately, we are mostly unaware of this. We do not realize Free Will as a means of development, but feel it as something completely ordinary and unimportant. And it is not like that.
If you do not believe it, ask the species, animals, plants and rocks available to you about it. And they will tell you that their consciousness is limited by their state. They will tell you that they cannot change it, improve it and develop it, and that their development is conditioned by the decisions of other, more developed beings, on whose assessment it depends when they will be moved to higher level of consciousness development.
And little by little, after several tens of thousands or millions of years, which is only a blink of an eye in the life of the Universe, developing our consciousness from a motionless stone, through growing grass, continuing through the diverse world of animals, finally, we reach the level of man.
“Consciousness sleeps in stone, dreams in plants, begins to awaken in animals, and is awake in man,” these are the words of an unknown poet.
The awakening of consciousness in a person leads to the activation of our free will, which was dormant until then, after which we begin to make decisions and choices independently. Although it is a gift, it is also a responsibility. We can choose Good or Evil, be an arsonist or a firefighter. But whatever we choose and decide, this decision carries with it and within itself the corresponding “reward”. The Universe is by no means a black void strewn with stars, but consciousness, of which we are an integral part. Although at our level of development we do not perceive it as such, it completely feels and perceives us. Our every intention, thought, emotion, feeling and deed, as well as all consciousnrss that have existed until now, continue to live in it. They are a record of our past experiences and at the same time the basis of our future life. All negative emotions and mistakes, from life to life, are gradually corrected and overcome. The exit from the quagmire filled with the traps of the Ego is difficult and lengthy. Often the quicksand of negative emotions, hatred and revenge holds us captive for a whole series of lives. Many times we allow ourselves to be swallowed up by it.
And this is the way the human species, with the help of Free Will, develops. Makes mistakes in relation to others and feels the consequences of these mistakes in one of the future lives, and more rarely in the same one. Now we ourselves have the opportunity to feel the pain, that we once inflicted on another. But even then, learning rarely happens quickly; it takes tens and hundreds of lives to learn to accept and respect the inviolability of someone's Free Will. Or life. Or anything else. It takes hundreds of lives to understand that each person is a consciousness that carries within itself the seed of the entire Universe.
And then, when we achieve and feel this knowledge, everything gradually but continuously changes in us. We become more focused on impulses coming from within, than on external ones sent to us by the Ego. Not accepting such ignorance, its impulses often become deliberately rude, but the more powerful and destructive they are, the more they lose their meaning. The barely audible whisper of your Soul, is now stronger, than the deafening scream of the Ego.
The new sensation that arises is strange and wonderful at the same time. At the same time, for the first time you feel the Universe as a friendly being. The embrace it receives you in washes away the last layers of pain and misunderstanding, and regardless of the further course of events, your life will never again sink into oblivion. All events, both good and bad, lose their personal note, because your consciousness feels the pulse of life much stronger and clearer than before.
You see a smile at the bottom of a tear.
The seed of life in the heart of the desert.
And you feel that you, the Universe, all the worlds and beings that exist in it, are born again and again in a circle, live and return again to the endless field of Unconditional Love.
