Everything happened too fast.
The first thing to happen was Eddie was dropping his cigarette. Demona saw the red tip fall to the floor of her van out of the corner of her eye, and as he swore and leaned down towards it, she pulled her gaze away from the storm outside of the passenger window.
The second thing to happen was the steering wheel twisting. Lightning cracked overhead and his rings glimmered in the flash, but rather than being on the correct side of the steering wheel, they were towards the center. It was then that her eyes turned towards the road just in time to see the front turn from ahead of them, off towards the side of the road.
"EDDIE!!"
The third thing to happen was Demona screaming his name, followed quickly by Eddie pulling himself back up. The van was already in motion, though, and as he desperately tried to get it back on the road, the fates had decided to roll against the couple that night. It wasn't long before the van was slamming into a tree, and Demona lurched forward. She knew it was too late to get the passenger seatbelt looked at, and as it ripped out of the buckle, the blonde fell foward, slamming her head on the dashboard with a thud. The world suddenly went dark, and not even the rain splattering in through the cracked windshield was enough to wake her up.
Thunder cracked overhead, and the teenager looked over to her window with a smile. It was dark, but the summer storms had always been her favorite. Sometimes rain came with the lightning, other times the clouds themselves seemed to be lit on fire. Quickly, the 14-year-old crawled to the end of her bed before half-jumping off. Bare feet then rushed over to the window, and as her eyes landed up in the sky, another flash of lightning moved across the sky. The thunder shook the glass shortly after, and her smile only grew larger. She could hear her door creak open, too, as her mother came into her room to tell her it was time to get ready for bed, but she didn't care. All she wanted was to see the next flash of lightning, no matter how late it was getting.
Thunder crashed again, pulling Demona back into consciousness. She didn't know how long she had been out, but her hair was wet, and she could feel blood dripping down her face. Her ears were ringing, her head was pounding, and her chest hurt. She wouldn't even move much with the amount of pain her head was in, and with a pained grunt, she tried to pick herself up. She couldn't even move her arms, though, let alone sit up in the van. All she could do was lay across the dashboard, and hope her head would stop hurting long enough to check herself and Eddie for injuries.
