History of IoT

The concept of the "Internet of Things" (IoT) has been around for two decades, but the idea of connected devices dates back even further, at least to the 1970s. During that time, it was often called "integrated Internet" or "generalized computing." The term "Internet of Things" was coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999 while working at Procter & Gamble, later affiliated with MIT's Auto-ID Center. Ashton, who specialized in supply chain optimization, aimed to capture senior management’s interest in RFID technology. Since the Internet was highly popular in 1999, he strategically named his presentation "The Internet of Things" to make it more compelling.
