John Bowden Connally Jr. (February 27, 1917 – June 15, 1993) was an American politician who served as the 39th governor of Texas from 1963 to 1969 and as the 61st United States secretary of the treasury from 1971 to 1972...(!)

He began his career as a Democrat

and later

became a Republican in 1973.

The Christmas of her Senior year at

Sacred Heart Academy, where she was Valedictorian...

I gave my daughter Allison a CD player

that could play mp3s from a writeable CD.

I thought she would appreciate bringing

a playlist of songs from home, when she

went to Georgetown University on Scholarship...

In March, I was talking to her in her room,

and I noticed the CD player still in the

package, with the receipt and extended warranty I had provided.

She never used it.

But I did teach her to play Acoustic guitar

in one lesson, with 14 handwritten chords.

A month later, she was teaching herself

.

I gave my son Luke a digital AM/FM Radio

with presets, for Christmas.

He didn't listen to it...

I wrote a text adventure building program

for him, because he said he wanted to

study Computer Programming.

I hoped he would use it, instead of playing

Counterstrike for 30 hours a week.

I could have explained the source code

to him, and he could have experimented

with extending it himself.

"Oh Dad, it has no GRAPHICS..."

And he never played with it.

I did teach him how to drive my car,

one winter night. His first lesson

was getting the car unstuck from

the snow in the driveway.

Then he drove on icy suburban streets

for an hour, pumped the gas for a fill-up,

and drove himself home 7 miles.

He never needed another lesson.

He told me he already got his license

when I asked about another lesson in July.

And now he's a Systems Analyst.

It takes a long time to train kids in school.

But once they have gone through 17 years

of school, they graduate, and are considered "Adults...".

Baby Adults.

Watch these young people hearing

a sixties Beatles song for the first time.

Notice their reactions.

They are young adults, and they know

about music...

But they are just learning about life...

If AI systems cannot learn from a song,

they should not be making critical decisions.

They don't have the heart and soul for it.

Remember, Gen X, no personal computers

or Smartphones in 1977 !

It's not the instrument, or the band...

It's the Heart and Soul...

The Four Strings of a Ukulele (Bass G)

are exactly like Guitar capo 5.

Great to learn on, portable, and great for

kids. George Harrison loved it.

Regarding JFK:

I was in first grade, we were listening

to a radio story hour about cute talking

animals in the woods, when the news

of Dallas/JFK broke in.

The teachers started crying, and I knew

it was real.

The Principal came in, looked at the class,

and the crying teachers, and looked at me...

then he closed the school.

I waited for Wendy Champagne to walk me home, but after 15 minutes, I realized

that her middle school across the street

didn't close early.

So I had to walk home alone for the first

time. A half mile at age six.

When I got home, the door was locked,

so I rang the bell.

My Great-Aunt Ceil answered, and said:

Oh ! what are you doing home now !

you bad boy !

When I told her that the President was shot,

she said:

Oh ! and making up stories too !

You wait till your mother gets home !

You're in big trouble !

My Nana didn't believe me either,

and I started to cry...

Nana felt bad for me, and made me

some PDQ instant chocolate milk,

and put it in a heavy Bison Sour Cream

Holiday glass.

I calmed down...

Then Aunt Ceil said Time for my Stories !

She turned on the TV...

What? Where are my Stories ???

All 3 network channels had news reports.

That's what I told you, Aunt Ceil !

I wasn't making up stories !

It really happened !

Oh how they cried.

2 months later, Aunt Ceil answered the phone, and Nana and Aunt Ceil cried:

Oh No !!!

Just like in November...

What was that on the phone ?

I asked...

They just cried...

That was about my Dad, wasn't it ?

He died, didn't he ?

They could do nothing but cry.

We prayed for President Kennedy for years.

My Mom had lost two children to staph

Pneumonia, an her husband died at 38.

Jackie Kennedy too had lost two children,

and a young husband...

So Mom wrote Jackie a letter.

Jackie had a signed family photo

sent back to Mom.

Mom said she figured there must have been

thousands of condolences letters sent,

but she liked to think that Jackie might

have been given her letter to read ...

P.S.

Now, thanks to Genetic Engineering

that started from the SV40 virus

in the Polio vaccine, we have

other things to worry about ...

1000108118.pngI saw the Grisman Quintet play this live.

Just as good as the record...

I shook his hand, and gave him a couple

plexiglass picks that I made.

I like to think that he might have tried them.
