THE DOLLMAKERS BIRTHDAY

AEW COLLISION: FRIGHT NIGHT

OCTOBER 31, 2026 · HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

BACKSTAGE VIGNETTE

[THE BROADCAST RETURNS FROM COMMERCIAL.]

The screen cuts to black, and a few seconds pass. Then comes the sound of a music box, a slow, delicate melody, slightly warped and distorted, plays over the darkness. The camera flickers to life, revealing what appears to be an abandoned nursery. Faded wallpaper. Dust-covered furniture. Antique porcelain dolls arranged in neat rows along the shelves, their painted eyes fixed directly ahead.

A small wooden table sits in the middle of the room, upon it rests a birthday cake with one candle. The flame dances as a pair of gloved hands enters the frame, carefully adjusting the position of a porcelain doll before a familiar voice breaks the silence. "Do you know what today is?"

The camera slowly pans to reveal Vesper seated at the head of the table. Dressed in black lace, her expression is serene, almost childlike in its contentment. She tilts her head, expressionless as always. "October thirty-first. A rather special occasion, wouldn't you agree? The night the dead are invited to walk among the living. The night the monsters are permitted to show their faces. The night little children knock upon strange doors, hoping to receive something sweet."

A small smile. "And, of course... my day of birth." She looks down at the candle, before speaking again in her soft, hauntingly melodic and monotonous british accent. "Another year older. Another year of collecting little things that others were foolish enough to leave unattended. How generous the world has been to me." Her fingers trace the edge of the table. “A birthday girl ought to make a wish, shouldn't she?"

A brief pause before speaking again. “I have made mine." She reaches toward the collection of dolls. A few specific ones that resemble several women on the roster are dawned in miniature championship belts. "Gold." She picks one up, examining its little belt.:"Not the pretty little trinkets handed out to make grown women feel important. Not the temporary recognition of an audience that forgets what it saw the moment the lights go out. No, no..." She puts the mini hand crafted belt down. "I want something worth keeping. Something that has been fought over, bled for, and worshipped by all the wrong people."

Her eyes wander toward two dolls sitting at the opposite end of the table. One wears a long blonde wig. The other has dark hair pulled tightly into a bun. “It seems the universe has been kind enough to put two rather interesting little candidates in front of me." She picks up the blonde doll. "Scarlett Valentine." A soft, appreciative hum. "Oh, Scarlett. A beautiful, ravenous thing, aren't you? A man-eater. A beast with a rather insatiable appetite for destruction. I've seen what you do to the women foolish enough to stand across that ring from you. The way you hunt. The way you devour. The way you leave so very little behind for anyone to recognize."

She turns the doll around in her hands. "There's something terribly honest about a woman who doesn't pretend to be anything other than a predator. You don't hide your teeth, darling. You wear them proudly." A pause, and an unusual smile appears on her face. "But I wonder if you've ever considered what happens when the thing you're hunting isn't prey?" She places the doll back in its chair, smile dropping once more to her usual flatlined expression.  "You see, Scarlett, I've spent a rather considerable amount of time being mistaken for something delicate. Something ornamental. Something that ought to be tucked away on a shelf and admired from a comfortable distance."

She leans closer to the camera. "A rather unfortunate mistake." Her expression never changes. "You may be the most dangerous thing inside that ring, sweetheart, but I am the thing that makes the dangerous things afraid to close their eyes." She lets that sit, before continuing. "And I do not frighten easily."

Her attention shifts to the second doll. "Marina Shafir." She picks it up, gently straightening its miniature clothing. "A woman who does not flinch. A woman who welcomes pain as though it were an old friend. I watched your little exchange with Scarlett. The slaps. The defiance. The invitation to hit harder." A very faint giggle. "How charming. Two women standing in a room, daring one another to prove which one is capable of inflicting the most damage." She turns the doll's face toward herself, as if she were talking to it. “Tell me, Marina... do you remember the last time something followed you home?" The music box  in the background begins to slow,  and there is a brief cut to an empty Death Riders locker room. A chair rocks gently in the corner, with a small crafted Vesper doll sitting atop a black jacket.

The image flickers, back to Vesper. "Some houses never quite recover from an unwanted guest. Some shadows never leave, no matter how many times you turn on the lights." She strokes the doll's hair, head tilted with a slightly soft expression in those lifeless light blue eyes of hers. "I wonder if your little family still checks the corners before going to sleep." She then sets the doll that resembles Marina down next to the one that resembles Scarlett.

“You see, I have no quarrel with the two of you fighting over my birthday present. By all means. Make a spectacle of yourselves at Full Gear. Tear at one another. Break something beautiful. Give the audience a reason to believe that either of you deserves to wear that crown." Her gaze shifts back to the camera, rather than the dolls. “Understand this, dearests…”  She rises from her chair, walking toward an enormous antique dollhouse in the corner of the room. Inside are miniature wrestling arenas, tiny spectators, and little figures dressed in the likeness of familiar faces. At the center of the largest room rests another miniature AEW Womens World championship belt. "I am not interested in being invited to the dollhouse, for I am the one who built it."

She carefully removes the miniature championship. "Scarlett Valentine. Marina Shafir. One of you will leave Full Gear wearing that lovely little piece of gold." She turns the belt between her fingers. "I will be watching. Waiting. Patiently. Quite patiently, because it matters very little to me which one of you wins. A beast or a wolf. Teeth or fists. It makes no difference." Her eyes lift, the candle light behind her flickering intensely.  "I simply want to know which one of you will be left standing when the music stops." Walking back to the table, she places the championship beside the birthday cake.

“I've spent enough time playing with the little things. I want something precious. Something that belongs at the center of my collection, and I have decided that the AEW Women's World Championship would look absolutely lovely in my hands." The candle flickers as Vesper leans over the cake, her lips curling into a smile. "Happy birthday to me." She blows out the candle, and the room plunges into darkness. For several seconds, there is nothing but silence, then the camera flickers back on.

Vesper is no longer at the table, but the dolls remain seated. The camera slowly pans toward the dollhouse, and a new figure has appeared inside it. A tiny yarn made doll dressed in black lace, with a miniature version of the AEW Women's World Championship draped across its lap. The camera begins to pull away, with faint, almost imperceptible sounds coming from somewhere behind the production crew.

The camera abruptly turns toward the noise. Nothing. It turns back.

A pale face is suddenly visible in the darkness, occupying the very center of the frame. Vesper with her head tilted at an unnatural angle. Her eyes are fixed on the camera. She slowly raises one gloved finger to her lips, accompanied by a long, uncomfortable silence. Then, barely above a whisper: "Run."
