Who was Tim Horton?

Tim Horton was born in Cochrane, Ontario, On January 12, 1930. After playing junior hockey, he spent three seasons in the American League with Pittsburgh and appeared for the Toronto Maple Leafs in five games. Horton entered and remained in the major leagues in 1952. He served as the defensive anchor for the Maple Leafs for the next 1812 years, helping them reach the playoffs 12 times and win the Stanley Cup four times. He spent 11 and a half seasons in New York before spending a year with N.H.L. Pittsburgh before he joined the Sabres in 1972. On February 21, 1974, Tim Horton was traveling along the Queen Elizabeth Way as he was heading to his home in Buffalo. Horton attempted to navigate a bend over 12 Mile Creek while traveling at a speed exceeding 100 mph.
