HP Printer Assistant is a Windows software program for HP printers that is installed on multiple printers. Use the HP Printer Assistant to verify the scan, order supplies, ink levels and more. When you open HP Printer Assistant, the printer configuration software window will appear after you upgrade your computer to a new version of Windows. The printer icon will not be available in the Devices and Printers folder, even if your printer settings and window are updated. You can reset the printer connection or reinstall the HP driver to resolve the problem. Follow the procedure below to configure the printer driver.

Connect a printer:

You can access the printer accessories by reconnecting the printer and connecting a new printer. When prompted, select the type of connection and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the printer. Click on the red screen X and try again if the connection fails, then continue with the next step.

Turn off the printer by pressing the power button. Restart the computer and the printer. Open the HP Printer Assistant.

If the printer wizard opens, the problem is resolved. Otherwise, go to the next step when you see the red X screen and the connection fails.

Uninstalling the HP driver:

You must uninstall the HP printer driver and software before reinstalling the current version of the driver. To reinstall the latest driver:

Download and install the current version of the software driver from support.hp.com. You can use the installation CD that came with your printer as an alternative method. Check if the CD contains the driver for your version of Windows

Restart:

After reinstalling the driver, you must restart the computer and the printer to complete the window setup. Turn off the printer. To restart your printer, close all programs running on the computer and restart it. Switch to printer, open HP Printer Assistant.

If HP does not have a full-featured driver, you must install the underlying driver. The driver for some versions of Windows is not available on the HP website and there is a CD that comes with the printer. Since the HP print driver is integrated into the Windows operating system or installed through the Windows Update function, you do not need to download anything.
