Responses sung in LATIN date back to

the Church at the time of the Bible (402)

when the Roman Emperor told the Church

to make a Bible that included the Jewish

Bible (Tanach) with LATIN translations

of the Gospels and letters of the New Testament. The first Vatican Council decided which GOSPELS and letters to

use, out of 5000 handwritten texts in Greek

and Aramaic. The translation was accomplished by Jerome, secretary to the Pope. Jerome also re-translated the Old Testament in accordance with the Masoretic Text. The Catholic Church spoke Latin at Mass, until the mid 1960's, after the Second Vatican Council.

It puzzled me that the Church would

revert to the vernacular (English) when

I was seven...

I was just getting used to the Latin.

Jesus said:

Those who are BAPTISED and BELIEVE

shall be saved.
