Why did NBC cancel Star Trek ?

I remember the first time I saw Star Trek.
We were at my Grandma's house, in South Buffalo. It must have been a Tuesday Night.
Star Trek came on, on her 25" Color TV.
.
I was fascinated.
Mom wouldn't agree to stay to watch it,
" You've got School Tomorrow..."
My Uncle Bill looked at us, and told my
Mom "Don't let him watch it..!"
It made me wonder...
Luckily, NBC moved Star Trek to
Friday Nights, at 10 pm, so I could watch it.
Later, NBC cancelled it.
My friends and I couldn't understand why ...
I bought myself a GE Tape Recorder,
and recorded several episodes of Star Trek.
One of them was
'Tomorrow is Yesterday'.
When the Channel 29 UHF broadcast got
to the part where Blue Jay Four reports
'Ive got him on my screen ...!',
The picture and sound went to static,
until Kirk says 'Welcome aboard the Enterprise"
In School, in 6th grade or so, our weekly
Reader newspaper had that story.
When we went to The Ontario Science Center on a field trip, I bought one of James Blish's Star Trek anthologies, and it had
Tomorrow is Yesterday in it.
I had seen slow moving orange UFOs
out at our cottage in Arcade, NY, on several occasions.
I knew there was some deep cover-up
going on.
Star Trek was leaking real events...
