Herb BathAn herb bath is a great way to nourish your skin. Various herbs can help with different ailments, or help create different moods, as well. You would be surprised at what you have around your kitchen that can be used to create a luxurious herb bath!

Some of the most common kitchen herbs can create lovely, aromatic baths. Basil, Mint, Oregano, Thyme and Ginger can all be used by themselves, or combined with other herbs and ingredients. You can use their essential oils, or the fresh or dried leaves of the herb. Ginger root can be grated fresh and added to the bath as well.

Herb baths are easy to prepare. Use a bath bag or tea bag to contain the leaves. You can steep them in boiling water beforehand to make an infusion, or add straight to the bath water. Fresh herbs can be particularly nice, and you can even leave a few leaves floating loose in the bath for a little color.

Many herbs are very beneficial for your skin. Chamomile, Lavender, Sage and Comfrey, just to name a few, all have been used for many, many years to treat various ailments. Just do some research on the particular herb you want to use, or the particular ailment you want to relieve, to find out what will work best for you.

A note of caution: Always do your own research when using herbs to treat symptoms. Don’t just take someone’s word for it! Make sure they know what they are talking about, and cross-check if need be to see if other experts are saying the same thing. Consult with a naturopath or other natural health doctor if you feel you need more personalized counsel.

An herb bath can contain other ingredients as well. Salts, oils, oatmeal, milk and other foods around your kitchen may go well with the herbs and compliment what you want your bath to do. You can also use fruit and veggies to add some color and scent, as well as nutrients, to your bath. Chopped Strawberries, for instance, look lovely floating in the water with fresh Mint leaves!

Adding a cup of herbal tea to sip while soaking is also a nice compliment to an herbal bath. And be sure to set the mood. Light some candles, turn the lights off, play some soothing music softly in the background.

It is also a good idea to make sure that you have everything you need for the bath prepared beforehand and in the bathroom ready for you. Gather up your towel, the clothes you want to put on after, your tea, candles, music, bath ingredients, and anything else you need. This will allow you to really enjoy your bath experience, without having to run around and find things that you need at the last minute.

You can experiment and try different ingredients and herbs. Again, do some research and find some good recipes, then add your own variations and twists. By following some basic guidelines, you  can quickly and easily create your own custom herb bath and enjoy your own home spa experience!
