Margaret Shelton (1915-1984) was a prominent Canadian artist known for her delicate watercolors and intricate printmaking, particularly woodcuts and linocuts. Born on a farm near Bruce, Alberta, she developed her artistic talent from a young age, studying under notable artists like A.C. Leighton at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art. Shelton's work is characterized by a straightforward, representational style that directly interprets the Alberta landscape without romantic embellishment. Over her career, she created hundreds of prints and contributed significantly to Canadian printmaking. Her art is included in major collections, such as the National Gallery of Canada and the Glenbow Museum, and she was actively involved in various artistic societies throughout her life.
