Her first kiss was a quick and playful one, planted on her by her best friend. Knowing that Marion did it only to tease her hurt, but she treasured the memory anyway.

Since that incident, she'd been kissed a few other times, but none of them felt the same way as this one did. Perhaps it was because she couldn't remember how and why it happened and who initiated it. One moment they were minding their own business–she was in bed reading a book as Rowan entered the room looking for something–then a featherlight touch and a heartbeat later, their lips found each other. She felt like a magnet crashing into another magnet of the opposite polarity. Kissing her felt right, but she knew it would only lead to trouble...

He came home, and by the sound of his slow, deliberate footsteps, she knew that he already knew what had transpired between her and his sister. There was no use hiding, so she just went up to him and looked at him in the eye. She didn't have a speech ready in her head for him... All she could do was just stand there and accept whatever he would say.

The three of them had been aware of the tension between her and the both of them for a long time now, but she'd been afraid to ruin the dynamic they had... Afraid to lose one of them if she pursued the other... Afraid to see the twins fall apart because of her...

River closed the distance between them with a kiss.

It started as a chaste kiss, but it slowly deepened the longer his lips lingered on hers. She wanted to push him away and ask why, but all she could do was pull him closer.

He broke off and whispered, "I don't know about her, but if you still have space in your heart for me, I'll take it."

She answered him by pulling him down on the couch for another kiss, among other things.
