It's possible that the Mumbai Indians have come to represent false starts in IPL campaigns. They haven't won their season opener since the 2012 tournament; they needed nine games to win for the first time in 2022, and they dropped three straight games before winning last year. They appear to go against the well-worn adage that "well begun is half done" in many respects.

The five-time winners are obviously keen to end this losing run, but doing so might be harder than anticipated, particularly since they will be traveling for their opening two games of the new season.

The Chennai Super Kings, a five-time champion and unstoppable force at home, will be their first opponent this season. The host team's spinners, who are renowned for creating a web around opposing teams, are believed to benefit on the sluggish fields at CSK's stronghold, the Chepauk. The Gujarat Titans, who were defeated by Shubman Gill's squad at the Narendra Modi Stadium previous season, will play Mumbai next in Ahmedabad.

The team's leader, Jasprit Bumrah, is probably going to be absent since he hasn't been cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, which will make their problems worse. Hardik Pandya, the captain, will miss the match because of an over-rate violation from the previous season, which is even more alarming.

Under captain Pandya and head coach Mahela Jayawardene, the MI management is committed to ending the opening hoodoo in spite of these failures. A few days ago, I was reminded that we haven't triumphed in our opening match since 2012. We have a significant task ahead of us to try to overcome that, both of us (pointing to Pandya) and Surya (Suryakumar Yadav), who will be our leader. Following that, we eagerly await the season. Their prognosis for the season, which begins on March 22, was being outlined by the coach.

We have a core group of people with experience who understand the culture, how we should play, and how we should win. Additionally, some of the old guys, like Trent (Boult), who played a significant role in our 2020 success, are returning with the new group of guys. Therefore, for us, it's about solving this problem, ensuring that we work well together, recognizing our abilities, and getting off to a strong start. We had some difficulties last season, but a lot has changed and there was a large auction. That gave us a blank canvas on which to begin painting our future.

The coach has accepted that Bumrah will not be present. When the spearhead will be available is unknown to the team. "Jasprit is currently with NCA." That progress was just beginning for him. We must wait to find out what they think of him. Right now, everything is going smoothly, but the progress is clearly being made on a daily basis. He is in a positive frame of mind and is hoping to join the team sooner rather than later. Of course, it's difficult without him.

He has been a great pro for us for many years and is among the top bowlers in the world. We'll need to figure something out; it's a chance for someone else to take the initiative and demonstrate their abilities. That's my perspective. It provides us with an additional element of experimenting to see what works.

Pandya is thrilled about Boult's return, but she feels powerless without Bumrah. "The bowling group has a very clear plan. It gives you a lot of experience. Because of the type of track we play on, the Wankhede can occasionally be extremely harsh to bowlers. Therefore, it was crucial to bring in players with experience, from Trent to Mitch (Mitchell Santner). Trent, as you said, was crucial to our success. This also applies to Deepak (Chahar) and all seasoned players, such as Boom (Bumrah), myself, and Mujeeb (Ur Rahaman), who are all young players with a lot of cricket experience."

Jayawardene and Pandya are unconcerned with Surya's current run drought. Earlier this year, the India T20I captain had amassed just 28 runs in five T20I matches against England. "I am not overly concerned about his form because he has scored a lot of runs over the years. He has been a match-winner for both India and the Mumbai Indians, batted wonderfully, and adds a lot of enthusiasm to the team," Pandya stated.

Jayawardene went on, "Sky is not a major worry for us. We watched him play a few practice games, and occasionally it was amazing to see how he played and approached his game. We all think, "Okay, he's human too," when he fails. So we just let it go at that and let him enjoy his batting for us."
