Rechargeable Batteries...
I once managed 350 Telxon
Hand Held Computers, that used
3 C-Cell Sanyo Cadnica batteries.
The OEM had no date codes
on the batteries...
There was no install date...
There were two kinds of
Battery Clips ...
Tin plated thin spring clips,
and
Nickel plated heavy spring clips.
I would put foam behind the clips
to improve contact.
Tin clips would oxidize due to
contact with the Nickel batteries.
There was water vapor emitted
from charging batteries held in
environmentally sealed cases...
Tin plated Eprom sockets would
oxidize too ...
I installed silica gel dessicants
in the battery compartments.
I kept all of this information
in database records on each unit.
Battery failure was the major source
of crashes.
We finally bought Panasonic batteries
in bulk, and I wrote the install dates
on the batteries, discarding them
after two years.
I changed out the CMOS button cells too.
And the Tin plated Eprom Sockets ...
