I saw these shake flashlights about 5 years ago, and they seem to be useful and foolproof, in case of power failures.

 

Or make your own...

 

 

Plans: 

 

With a 5v regulator from an old charger,

You could charge USB.

 

I wouldn't shake it while connected to

any valuable electronics...

Unplug it first.
