Daley's Reel

But there is a steep learning curve.
If a typical novice guitarist tried to learn
Daley's Reel from the tab,
He couldn't do It.
You would have to be an accomplished
guitarist to look at the printed page
of Tablature, and standard notation,
to be able to play the notes swiftly
and accurately, to comprehend what
the tune is supposed to sound like.
(click for Laudate Dominum...)
By text editing a numeric copy of
the standard notation, from a hand
written list based on the Staff numbers
that you see on the screenshot,
I built the tune in about an hour.
Then, using the MP3 function of Staff,
I produced an mp3.
Wavepad couldn't recognize it,
so I had to load it into an audio file converter,
and re-save it as an mp3.
Wavepad loaded this, and I sped up the tune
to a typical reel tempo, and added chorus,
reverb, telephone, low pass, and robotic voice effects to smooth out the audio.
A novice could learn the tune from this.
Remember, In Staff, you can speed up
or slow down the tempo, and you can change the key of the tune as well.
You can't save the audio from staff directly,
as it is a pascal program sounding the pc speaker.
By loading "file" mp3...
You will be asked to supply a file name
Staff will then build the mp3 file,
Which you can edit with Wavepad,
and save at different speeds.
Like a metronome that plays the tune.
By saving the staff (text) tune with XX,
the numeric file will be saved with
Note values as lyrics.
You can text edit the saved file
to make corrections and timing
adjustment, then build mp3s.
Chuck
I built Dream On on DC Library Computers.
The notes are from a recording of my
Yamaha FG-335, and are found and
reassembled into a patchwork mp3.
You'll likely have to load them into an
Audio File Converter App so that you
can edit them with Wavepad...
I played that Yamaha at 30 years of
Catholic Masses.
When Guitar Tab shows 3 notes
played at once, try using the top note.
You can remind yourself with a
Lyric line that says * B1 G2 A0 *
PS:
-1 100 as the last line of the song text
will cause staff.exe to repeat the song.
The Spacebar stops the play.
PPS: The operating system of some
Smartphones may cause speed variations
in the playback, however, mp3s will
play properly.
The mp3 will be slower than the
Staff.exe song, (actually helpful while learning... )
use Wavepad to speed it up.
Staff is found in:
