Correcting an Applicant’s Name in an Israel National Phase Application

To err is human, to forgive divine” is a well known line by Alexander Pope. There are instances when the name of a PCT applicant is entered incorrectly, only to be noticed when it is time to enter the National Phase. While such an error is easily correctable in the international stage (see Page 3, Chapter 11 of the PCT Applicant’s Guide), correction in the national phase is more complicated, at least in Israel.  

Entering the Israel National Phase: When entering Israel National Phase, the applicant’s name as listed on the WIPO website will automatically appear in the Israel application exactly as entered, including any errors entered when filing the PCT. If the applicant’s name is manually corrected when filing the Israel National Phase application, the Patent Office will require a formal explanation as to the change, as per the procedure described below.
