There were very few teams in AEW that truly scared Matt Jackson. In fact, the only team that had ever truly scared Matt was the team The Elite now found themselves against: The House of Black. It was their reliance on mind games, on the darkness that surrounded the House like an all encompassing blanket. That darkness was something that Matt Jackson was beginning to grow accustomed to, especially since the events of All Out.

The events of what fans now called Brawl Out had proven one thing to Matt. It had proven that the fans did not view The Elite as the heroes they once had. It had turned the EVP's into the most hated members of the roster. Matt tried to stop that from getting to him, tried to stop the boos and hatred from getting into his soul.

No wonder the House of Black had focused on that darkness.

The first victim in the war, and another message sent, was Brandon Cutler. Lenora Lee, the House's resident witch, had backed Brandon into a corner during a lumberjack match he had been a lumberjack for. The houses monster Micah Kent and their madman Adrien Pike had put Brandon through a table. Matt knew he should have come to the recuse of his friend, but he was afraid. He couldn't bring himself to come to his friends aide.

The horror of the House had come to plague him soon after.

Carry On My Wayward Sonย played as Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson, and himself were making their entrance for the night. Matt loved the song, feeling that it fit the trio to a t. There was a fight for the trio to focus on, a cause in their heart. That cause, however, meant nothing when the lights cut out and the House let itself be known. Matt could barely see in the darkness, he certainly couldn't put up a fight against whatever member of the House was throwing punches. By the smell of the dirt and the roughness of the ham-sized fists that were landing against his gut, matt assumed it was Micah Kent.

Matt felt himself lifted into the air before he came crashing down to the entrance ramp. His eyes searched for his brother, for Kenny. Both men laid on the entrance ramp next to him. Matt didn't dare look up. He knew what he would find. If he looked up, he would see the House of Black standing above him triumphantly. He would see the AEW Trios Championships they had worked so hard for being lifted by the ones that went bump in the night.

And Matt knew that if he and Nick and Kenny didn't find a way around these mind games?

This would be the last time they ever saw those titles.
