Abondanza emphasizes competitive system, discusses changes in V-League FA and foreign player system

Heungkuk Life Women’s Professional Volleyball coach Marcello Abondanza raised his voice. She emphasized concentration to reduce players' ups and downs from rally to rally and set to set, and emphasized the need for systemic changes in the V-League to strengthen concentration.

Heungkuk Life Insurance is ranked 2nd in the league with 3 consecutive wins. The process of winning streak was not smooth. First, in the IBK Industrial Bank of Korea match on the 4th, he allowed two consecutive sets of points and was outnumbered 9-17, but won the game after a close full set. Afterwards, they lost the first set against Pepper Savings Bank, ranked 7th, and Korea Expressway Corporation, ranked 6th, and then achieved come-from-behind wins. They were drawn 16-22 and 12-20 in the first and second sets against Pepper Savings Bank, respectively, and had an uneasy start against Korea Expressway Corporation with a score of 6-14 in the first set, but reported a 3-1 win in two consecutive games.

Heungkuk Life Insurance maintained second place with 18 wins and 5 losses (50 points) along with 3 consecutive wins, and succeeded in narrowing the gap with leader Hyundai Engineering & Construction (17 wins, 5 losses, 52 points).

Heungkuk Life Insurance, which was leading, fell to second place. Coach Abondanza emphasized attack power and concentration. He said, “I wish there were more solutions in attack. A more important issue is concentration. “There are ups and downs during the rally and during the set,” he said, pointing out areas for the team to improve.

Coach Abondanza said that the reason for the lack of concentration was, “The basic mental tension is different. Of course, it would be nice to win the game, but losing one game is not a big problem. If you lose a game overseas, you could be sent down to the second division, which could have a big impact. “In Korea, there will be less stress here,” he said. “As stress builds up, mental tension is maintained, and as it leads to performance, this part becomes stronger. “This is something I want the players to learn,” he said.

He continued, “Tension has many positive aspects, but it can also have negative effects. If managed well, it will ultimately have a positive effect. However, it seems that this tension cannot be maintained systematically. “This is my personal opinion,” he said emphatically.

Even at the beginning of the season, Coach Abondanza emphasized the competitive system. He said, “Only when the level of those around you is high can you develop yourself and your level also rise. “Forcing them to adapt to an established environment slows down their growth,” he said. “It is true that domestic players should be given opportunities, but rather than thinking that they will be deployed or receive salary even if they are not deployed, I can only develop if my opponents and those around me grow and the level is high.” You have to think that you can do it. He expressed, “If someone is used in a game, they must be qualified to do so.”

Coach Abondanza also pointed out what needs to be improved regarding the V-League free agent (FA) system and selection of foreign players. He first mentioned the period of time he was eligible to become a free agent.
