Lotto-Québec Closes First Half of FY22-23

This week, Lotto Quebec released its official financial results figures for the first half of the fiscal year 2022-2023. Crown Agency reported total revenue of C$1.466 billion and consolidated net income of C$853.3 million over the six-month period. This is an increase of C$382.9 million and C$221.3 million, respectively, from the same results last year.

Compared with 2021-2022, it is not completely fair because some activities of the crown construction were suspended from April 1, 2021 to mid-June 2021. This was due to casino closures due to the unprecedented situation of March 2020. During the first half of the year, the organization reported a ratio of 27.9% to revenue in total costs, compared to 31% in 2019-2020.

In the report, Crown said revenue from the lottery was C$468.3 million, down 5.8% from the same period last fiscal year. Meanwhile, online lottery sales accounted for 12.7 percent of the lottery. It should be noted that the ratio was significantly smaller at 3.4% during the first half of the fiscal year, when unprecedented conditions occurred.

Casinos and game consoles contributed to revenues of CA$551.4 million, a huge increase of CA$244.5 million during 2021-22 and CA$39 million during 2019-20. Online casino revenue amounted to 23.8% of gambling's total revenue. Meanwhile, the unprecedented situation was 8.9% in the first half of the fiscal year. This means that online casino offerings are gaining momentum in the provinces.

Revenue from the gaming facility was then up C$455.9 million, or C$174.4 million from the same period last fiscal year. The increase is explained by the fact that many locations were shut down from April 1 to June 2021, while operations were not suspended this year.

Revenue from video lottery terminals remained similar to unprecedented situation records.

From June 28 to September 26, 2022, Crown Company paid 23 lottery winners worth more than C$1 million. So since the start of the fiscal year, the total amount has been 54. During that time, the agency also introduced a new version of Lotto 6/49, which offered a classic jackpot of C$5 million and a gold ball jackpot that could start with C$10 million and reach C$60 million or more.

Crown also reintroduced the Lotto Support Charity Lottery, which arrived in late September 2022. Through this scratch-ticket scheme, local non-profit organizations and charities received a total of CA$500,000 in donations. Also, La Pouaufsdor returned to the TV screen for the new season on August 28 to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

In the first half of the fiscal year, the organization also launched two new Kinzo halls, one in Sherbrooke and one in Longueu. Also a multi-game area that includes hosts and encourages social interaction, this zone debuted in the Salon de Jude Trussribiere. A full report on the Crown's key points can be found on its official website.
