Former professional baseball star Jeong Soo-geun (47) was booked on charges of assaulting his wife. This time it was a drunken accident again.
Namyangju Southern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it had booked Jeong Soo-geun on charges of special assault. Jeong Soo-geun is accused of hitting his wife, A (34), on the forehead once with a golf club while drunk at his home around 5 a.m. the previous day.
After receiving a report from Mr. A, the police arrived and arrested Jeong Soo-geun at the scene. During the police investigation, Jeong Soo-geun denied the charges and was sent home. They plan to call him back soon to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Jeong Soo-geun was previously booked without detention on charges of swinging a liquor bottle and injuring a man who was drinking with him at a bar on the afternoon of the 21st of last month (special injury), and the police have recently handed over the case to the prosecution.
Meanwhile, Jeong Soo-geun was disqualified indefinitely for assaulting an apartment security guard while drunk in July 2008. He moved to Lotte the following year and had his suspension lifted, but in August 2009, another drinking scandal broke out and he retired from his career.
In August 2022, he was sentenced to one year in prison for unlicensed drunk driving and was taken into court custody.
