Elon Musk's BORING company is remarkable.

The Las Vegas loop tunnel took 2 years for 2.2 miles.

Musk wants 7 miles/day...

That would bore NY to LA in 399 days, if Continuous...

The Vegas loop project uses

Tesla cars @35 mph for rolling stock.

 

However, just as with SpaceX,

each model of the Borer is made

a little better ...

 

Elon wants 7 miles per day.

 

That could dig a cross-town tunnel

in any city, in one day...

 

Los Angeles to New York is

2789 miles...

 

That would take 399 days to dig,

if future models could bore continuously...

 

And if future models got Larger Bores, Trains could be put in the

tunnels !

 

The fastest rolling stock train is

ICE Berlin-Budapest @198 mph...

 

New York to LA would take

14 hours @198mph.

 

This would use 156 KwH per passenger, or $22 @ $0.14 /KwH...

 

Figure double the fuel cost

for a ticket price,

and that would be

 

$44 coast to coast...

in 14 hours.

 

Compare to a 747...

27 gallons of fuel @ $7.11

$192 per passenger fuel cost.

 

Compare to a car.

112 gallons of gas @3.49

$391 per car fuel cost.

 

A Tesla Model S

@70 mph would take 40 hours

New York to LA...

 

@300 miles/charge it

would require 10 charges 

Coast to Coast.

 

If using Tesla Superchargers,

this would take 8 hours of charging.

 

If using 220v charging,

This would take 150 hours to charge.
