I built these two model kits around
71-19-07.4
The enterprise model had tiny light bulbs
and batteries inside it.
I had luminous clay dots on the ceiling
of the cottage balcony, forming real constellations from a guide book.
I never completed the Klingon Model,
as I only worked on it from time to time
out at the cottage.
I painted it metallic blue.
Car Model magazine had many inspiring
articles about hot-rod models, including
using a "hot-knife" ( like a heat-controlled
X-acto soldering iron) and the Dremel Moto-tool.
Testors made model paint and glue,
the old stuff was thin toluene in a brush bottle,
then toluene with melted styrene in a
syrupy tube, messy, but better for gap filling.
Folks were concerned about solvent
vapors, so someone came out with
a glue called
made from orange oil.
Nowadays most builders use super-glue,
because it's cheap and available.
A fascinating form of model building
is
which cuts and modifies
parts of two or more models, and builds
something unique with it...
Did you know that you can mix
super-glue with baking soda
to form solid parts and repairs ?
