Asiatic lion is a distinct subspecies of lion that is native to the Indian subcontinent. Physically, they are slightly smaller than their African counterparts. The primary habitat of the Asiatic lion is the Gir Forest in the state of Gujarat, India. The Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the last refuge for these lions.
