During the demonstration, the Bing search engine’s ChatGPT-inspired AI system reviewed financial data,
specifically those from Gap and Lululemon.
When comparing the chatbot’s results to the real reports, it revealed a flaw in that it missed some data.
The audience also saw that some of the figures appeared to be fake.
Independent search researcher Dmitri Brereton posted on Substack on Monday with the following statement:
“Bing AI got some answers completely wrong during their demo. But no one noticed. Instead, everyone jumped on the Bing hype train.”
In addition to the report inaccuracies, Brereton pointed out potential factual errors with the demo’s mistakes in the vacuum cleaner specs and travel arrangements to Mexico.
The researcher said he wasn’t deliberately searching for mistakes.
Brereton only discovered the inaccuracies when he was attempting to write about the Microsoft and Google AI reveal comparison.
In the meanwhile, AI specialists said the blunders were “hallucinations.”
