Ontario's iGaming Markets Set to Start April 4

The long-awaited launch of Ontario's new, regulated iGaming market is now confirmed. Last week, iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of Ontario's alcohol and gaming company, announced an agreement with private operators to launch online expansion on April 4, 2022, so they will be able to offer their digital gaming offerings to the audience.

Ontario's open market for private game operators was scheduled to begin late last year, but was delayed due to some complexity in the legal process. The market attracted a lot of attention not only because of their game activities, but also because of many opportunities such as the population of the province and the introduction of single game bets last summer.

Last week, iGaming Ontario, a division created to manage all online gaming services in the region, announced that April 4, 2022 is the official launch date for the new market. If everything goes according to plan, private operators will be able to provide online game products to local residents from that day on.

Ontario's iGaming market was announced in 2010, and the Ontario Lottery and Game Company said local betters spend more than $400 million annually on unregulated online sites. But Martha Oton, managing director of iGaming Ontario, shared that most Ontarioians continue to bet online on overseas websites to date.

Mr Orton assured gamblers that companies set to join the newly regulated local market will comply with strict gaming and operator integrity standards, and will provide necessary player protection and social responsibility to create a safe gambling environment for all online betters and operators choosing new markets.

She also added that licensed operators will be equipped with everything to prevent underage gambling, as well as comply with applicable laws such as anti-money laundering rules and rules. Mr Orton said these measures and protection were just samples of what would come to the newly regulated market on April 4, 2022.

Competitor CEO Steven Salz said he is looking forward to the official launch of the new market in April this year and is eager to put the service on his home turf. In October, the company applied for a license to become a fully regulated sports betting operator in the province. The CEO also said the iGaming market is the right path for the region.

However, a study called the Ontario Gaming Market Assessment, prepared for the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, suggests that new markets may come with costs. A study by HLT Advisory Inc. predicts that this expansion will significantly cause a player shift to digital gambling options, thus hurting casino properties in the region.
