The study was commissioned by the Campaign for Fair Gambling (CFG). The study looked specifically at the performance of the black market by analyzing how players chose to bet during the 2024 Super Bowl. Further research on gambling shares between regulated and unregulated markets is expected in the coming days.
Yield Sec reports that a total of 350 million bets made for the Super Bowl this year were worth $5.4 billion (£4.26 billion/€4.98 billion). Total bets are up 22.8%, while betting values are up 20.0% year-over-year.
In total, 228 million bets were illegal and 122 million bets were legal. Illegal bets generated $4 billion, while legal bets accounted for the remaining $1.4 billion. In comparison, the 2023 Super Bowl brought in 286 million bets, split between 186 million illegal bets and 100 million legal bets. Of the $4.5 million generated last year, $1.1 billion came from legal bets and $3.4 billion came from illegal bets.
Yield Sec calculated that the illegal betting market accounts for 65% of the Super Bowl betting market, while the legal market accounts for 35% of the market. 바카라
"The replacement from illegality to legal is not happening at the pace required. Illegal is used as a brand of choice and convenience, where possible, it is partially replaced by legal for offers and account opening incentives, like the Super Bowl," the report says.
