The Bullet Club under the leadership of Prince Devitt had become a team worthy of the fear that plagued the minds and shonein the eyes of those they opposed. Maybe it was the talent that Devitt himself possessed. Maybe it was the mwn ho made up the forces that followed, men like Tama Tonga and Luke Gallows. It was an honor to be chosen for desolation and destruction at their hands in the eyes of Matt Jackson. An even higher honor was being chosen to be in their ranks.
That's why this meeting made Matt so nervous.
Over the last few years, Matt knew that he and Nick had made a sort of name for themselves. It was the sole reason that New Japan had invited them to take part in the Best of the Super Juniors tag team tournament. It was an opportunity to prove that they were one of the best tag teams in the world. Both Nick and Matt had been prepared to share a locker room with the other contestants, so when they saw the giant of a man waiting for them at the arena, they were shocked.
"Fergal wants to see you," Tama huffed as he led them to the private locker room of the Bullet Club, "don't disappoint."
Matt swallowed thickly, exchanging a glance with Nick as Tama pushed the door to the room open. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺? It was nicer than any of the rooms he had used before. It looked more like a living room suite instead of the wooden benches that were so common. On the black easy chair in the corner sat Prince Devitt, who stood the moment Matt and Nick entered. "Well! It's about time ya two showed up!"
Matt gave a nervous grin, extending his hand, "Uh...it's nice to meet you, Mr. Devitt. I'm-"
"Oh, none of tha'!" Prince laughed as he clapped a hand to Matt and Nick's shoulders, standing between the two, "I know who ya are! Matt and Nick Jackson! I was very excited tae see ya here!"
He escorted Matt and Nick to the couch, giving a jerk of his head as a silent command to tell Luke and Karl to move. "Oh, no. They don't have to-"
"Nonsense, Nick," Prince chuckled, though his steely gaze on the other tag team was very pointed, "they don't mind..."
Matt noticed the glare that Karl gave him as he sat down. HIs palms rubbed at the fabric of his jeans, having not changed into his ring gear yet. His tongue darted out to meet his lips. "So...um...what do you want with us?"
"Luke, why don't you get these boys some water?" Prince gave a wave of his hand as he settled into his chair again. He crossed one leg over the other, hands clasping around his knee. "So, Nick and Matt. I've heard ya consider yerselves one of the best tag teams in the world. Is tha' true, Nick?"
"Oh," Matt began, "I-"
"I believe, 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁," Prince's steely gaze pinned Matt to his seat, "that I was talking to your brother. Is that alright with you?"
Nick cleared his throat, rubbing at the back of his neck sheepishly, "Well...yes. Matt and I are one of the best tag teams in the world."
The smile that crossed Prince's lips was almost predatory as he gave an approving nod, "I think so tae. And my Club? Well, my Club only wants the best. Tha's why we're offering you boys a spot."
Matt's eyes lit up and he sat up straighter, "You want us?"
Nick's movements mirrored his own, "Bullet Club? Really?"
Prince gave a nod, the smirk on his face one of pride. Still, there was something hidden in those cold blue eyes, a certain madness that Matt couldn't exactly place. It was unnerving, even in the joy of the moment. "This is yer chance, boys. Ya can take my offer and begin tae live in infamy or ya can deny it and, well, the Club does nae like tae be denied. So wha' will it be? Will ya take tha' leap?"
