Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality Limited, a joint venture between China's Diaoyutai state-owned guesthouse and U.S.-based casino operator MGM Resorts International, said it had a management agreement to make the 161-room, 58-suite hotel in Shanghai called MGM Shanghai West Byrne (pictured with the impression of an artist).
The timeline for the development and opening of the property was not mentioned in a press release on Tuesday.
MGM Resorts is the parent company of Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd.
In June 2018, the Diaoyutai - MGM joint venture opened the 162-room Bellagio Shanghai hotel.
Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality currently operates five hotels and three brand residences in mainland China, according to a recent press release.
They are under the moniker of Diaoyutai, MGM, Bellagio by MGM, MGM, Mhuv by MGM and Diaoyutai MGM Residence, respectively.
The service areas are Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Sanya, and Haikou.
The report said more properties are set to open in Qingdao, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shanghai, Wuhan and other cities, respectively. The latest Shanghai properties will "further consolidate the company's presence across China," it added.
In June last year, Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality confirmed to GGRAsia plans for two new hotels close to the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai in Guangdong province.
The deal for the new Shanghai venue will be signed with Shanghai Westburn Development (Group) Limited. It will be in what is called the city's "central activity zone."
MGM Resorts International CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle said in a press release on Tuesday, "We will leverage our extensive experience and capabilities in entertainment management, art, exhibition, and sports to help MGM Shanghai West Bund deliver a globally renowned vibrant and exciting atmosphere."
