In a key step toward reviving the peace process, DEM Party MPs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar met with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, proposing cross-party dialogue and a parliamentary commission ahead of a potential visit to the imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island.
Deputy Group Chairs of the DEM Party also met with Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç on 24 June to highlight serious concerns around prison conditions in Turkey, particularly the neglect of sick and political prisoners in the country’s overcrowded detention system.
A delegation led by DEM Party Co‑Chair Tuncer Bakırhan met with parliamentarians in Germany and the UK to seek support for Abdullah Öcalan’s 27 February “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” and the ongoing peace process in Turkey.
A two-day conference in Brussels commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Sheikh Said Rebellion, bringing together scholars, civil society actors and Kurdish leaders. The event features a message from Öcalan and will culminate in a mass rally in Cologne on 29 June, calling for justice, remembrance and a pluralist democratic future.
