Toxic Avenger Standard Operations Procedure

Look alive, Avenger. You are part of the most well-equipped and free-spirited fighting force the galaxy has ever known, and it is your duty to uphold this coalition's fearsome reputation. This edition is intended for members of the Toxic Avenger, the personal vessel of Grandmaster Johnny Tower and his elite crew of operatives. You will be operating in one of the most volatile and dangerous portions of Nanotrasen space, the closest available outpost being Space Station 13. Under the direction of your fearless Grandmaster, you are to gather loot and slaves in the name of the Toxic Avengers. Go forth and wreck nerds!

ON-SHIP RANKING

There are only three ranks in the standard Toxic Avengers crew hierarchy, each with straightforward, but malleable duties that fulfill all the needs of the ship.

At the top is the Captain, who holds absolute authority on matters occurring in the ship. The Captain may seem like a do-nothing dictator at first glance, you will find that this rank has the most responsibility of anyone on the vessel. The Captain is responsible for monitoring the goings-on of the entire crew, ensuring that everyone is performing to the utmost of their abilities. The Captain lives or dies by the crew they command, and it is your job, Captain or not, to live up to this standard.

Beneath the Captain is the Guard. Guards are second to the Captain concerning on-ship affairs and, as the name suggests, are in charge of keeping the ship safe. Guards remain on the ship when the Recon team is raiding, and are tasked with keeping any prisoners acquired in line. Guards are to keep constant watch for prisoner rebellion, as well as the rare and unforgivable instances of crew betrayal. You, guardsman, are the surest line of defense against the capture or destruction of your vessel.

Finally, the Reconnaissance team. Recon represent the rank and file of the crew, and are tasked with engaging with and pilfering local outposts. It is their job to gather supplies and slaves for the ship, ideally for return to the main base for research or our amusement. Recon has the most dangerous job of the three and, though well-equipped, cannot be protected from stupid mistakes. This guide may help the new Recon to prevent such mistakes before they occur, and it is encouraged that this guide be read thoroughly before a mission is undertaken.

Guests are the lowest possible position one can be on a Toxic Avenger vessel without being a prisoner. Guests should be allowed to move freely about the ship, in zones to which they have access, so long as they do not damage anything or harm the crew.

Of special note to your vessel is the presence of the Toxic Avenger mascot, The Cock. The Cock, clearly identifiable by their uniform, does not have any responsibilities and, to be honest, is not very good at anything. The Cock is considered a member of the crew, but should probably remain on the vessel for their own safety. Assigning The Cock menial tasks, such as making donk pockets for guests, is entirely acceptable.

 EQUIPMENT

The ESMG, standard to both Guardsmen and Recon ranks, is a weapon of immense complexity. An improvement on the vastly inferior ep90 design, it has a nearly limitless supply of ammunition, and a number of firing-modes to fit the needs of the moment. This weapon can save your life, and should not be lost or, worse, stolen. Certain modes befit certain roles better, but use your judgment in determining how to approach the situation.

Recon and occasionally Guardsmen will be equipped with highly advanced bluespace containment units colloquially referred to as 'Bags of Holding.' These bags are immensely roomy, and can be stowed in ablative coats when necessary. These bags can even hold other, less advanced backpacks, allowing for a plethora of loot to be carried out at the end of a given raid. The use of these bags is fairly straightforward, but under no circumstance should one bag of holding be placed in another. There is no penalty for this crime, as you will not survive to see punishment. Don't do it.

Recon and the Captain are both equipped with stylish coats that are interwoven with a special ablative material, deflecting all energy-based weaponry without fail. These coats are also exceedingly roomy, and can carry exceptionally large items with a relative degree of comfort. These suits should be kept on while on missions and should not, for any reason, be discarded or left out. If you must remove a suit, place it in a secure location, preferably in your backpack. EVA equipment with similar ablative properties is located in the bridge, for use in low-oxygen and EVA situations.

The Captain has a coat that denotes their rank and has the same capabilities as standard Toxic Avenger equipment. They are also issued a Mateba in addition to their standard suite of weaponry, which has variable ammunition loads that can be purchased from the Infi-Ammo standard on Toxic craft. The Captain is encouraged to don their coat and carry their Mateba pistol and ESMG at all times.

Guards are encouraged to keep their suppression batons within easy reach for malcompliant prisoners. For all other intruders, Guards are advised to set their ESMG to 'bullet' setting. The armory has a number of heavier armaments for more severe situations, the L6 SAW rifle being useful for high-emergency situations, and Guards are encouraged to make use of the chemical projector and tear-gas grenades for suppressing malcompliants. Familiarize yourself with the contents of the armory and their uses - anything you are unsure about should be broached with the Captain before put into use.

Recon has a very active role, and you may find yourself making liberal use of the ESMG's different firing modes. It is generally unnecessary to kill crewmen, even those pursuing you, and non-lethal methods of suppression are advised in these cases. All Toxic Avenger sunglasses are equipped with medical HUDs, giving an accurate readout of a given subject's physical health, and these should be used to make judgment calls on how to suppress a given target. Recon should carry at least one set of handcuffs and one tear-gas grenade, though a box of each is always useful if you have the room. Batons should also be kept on-hand, but can be placed in the backpack. It is highly recommended that each recon operative carry  a Mateba pistol and at least one .357 reload on hand, in case of severe emergency.

The Cock is allowed their suit and generally should not be allowed near any weapons.

STANDARD PROCEDURE

The goals of a Toxic Avenger crew are straightforward: maintain the ship, acquire loot, take slaves from local outposts. The Captain is responsible for ensuring these goals are accomplished, and their orders should be obeyed to ensure the fulfillment of objectives and the safety of the crew.

When you prepare to sally forth from headquarters, you should avail yourself of a locker containing gear for your job. Barring special circumstances, you should not carry around gear that is nonstandard for your job. It is cumbersome, distracting, unnecessary, and may deprive crewmen of the appropriate job of the tools they need. From here, you will await your vessel at the docks and board in an orderly and efficient fashion. The Captain or a Guardsman should be in charge at the helm, and should keep the ship a healthy distance away from the targeted outpost while mission goals and priorities are discussed.

Recon will set out into the outpost, and should keep together whenever possible, fully equipped with whatever tools are necessary to fulfill their mission in addition to their standard equipment. Weapons should be drawn or within easy reach if the crew becomes hostile or slaves are to be taken. As a rule of thumb, injured crewmen should be suppressed using the ESMG's standard 'stun' function, as well as any crewmen too wily or mobile to stopped with sustain fire. Healthy crewmen should be suppressed using the ESMG's oxygen beam, preferably with sustained fire. Crewmen to be taken as slaves should be immediately handcuffed and returned to the ship - as a general rule, slaves should only be taken if no other mission goals are extant, due to the difficulty of dragging around a human body while trying to accomplish other goals. If the crew is amiable to a trade, they should be treated with extreme caution but allowed to make their bid if they are shown to be trustworthy.

Often, crewmembers who have been sentenced to permanent incarceration are receptive to being freed, and should be egressed whenever possible - EVA is recommended for this task.

Standard prisoner and slave procedure is to strip the prisoner of all items - preferably securing them in the armory or the security office - and suit them up with a prisoner ID and jumpsuit, as well as their guidebook. This guidebook should be consulted by crew as well, if they are uncertain about a given access violation.

Guards should shoot first and ask questions later. Anyone who does not appear to be in standard Toxic Avengers gear, sounds unfamiliar, or is out-and-out intruding should be suppressed and incarcerated immediately - explanations can happen after the fact. Prisoners who react violently or show apparent defiance can be locked in their cells, and there is no stipulation against a little brutality. Four strikes with the suppression baton to each leg should be enough to cripple them and teach them a good, hard lesson about malcompliance. Keep an eye on your medical HUD to ensure you haven't needlessly killed a prisoner. Guests should be looked after, their needs seen to, but not allowed to obstruct or otherwise disrupt the ship's operations - don't be afraid to demote them to prisoner if they get uppity!

Communication is absolutely vital - between members of the respective ranks as well as between the entire crew. If a crew member is going to enter the ship in nonstandard equipment, or is being pursued, a heads-up to the guards on ship can mean the difference between a clean getaway and a very messy situation. Always check in with your crewmates and ensure that everything is proceeding as normal.

It is the responsibility of all Toxic Avengers to make sure that both their crewmates and the prisoners they capture are compliant. Prisoner punishments can be meted out as seen fit, and there are only two punishments for seditious Toxic Avengers: imprisonment and death. These are meted out in accordance to the judgment of the Captain or Guards, in accordance to the severity of the given crime. Friendly fire is among the most heinous of offenses, and incapacitating or killing your fellow Toxic Avenger is grounds for immediate execution barring special circumstances.

Cock, if you are reading this, look after Dr. Heinrich von Pugge and try not to break anything. That is all.

Stealth Operatives

Stealth Operatives have been given their own section due to the danger and severity of their job. Stealth Operatives are given the tools necessary to intermix with the crew, infiltrate their numbers and gather intelligence. Through Stealth Operatives, the job of the Recon team is made that much easier - access can be gained, troublesome crewmembers suppressed or killed, and information about the current state of the station transmitted without risk to the Recon team. You will be the first in the station and the last out, and your directives will be determined by the Captain.

There are some general pointers to be aware of. It is paramount that you not reveal yourself unless absolutely necessary - if the crew is aware of your presence, you have nullified your purpose and the Recon team will need to go to that much more trouble extracting you. DO NOT let on your true purpose - being put into perma-brig is far easier for Recon to extract you from than having the crew out for your blood. Do not get caught, exchange information only when necessary, and always keep a line of communication to the Avengers handy.

You will be working largely on your own once you've been deployed to the station, and you will be expected to use your own judgment in handling targets and allowing access.

Conclusion

If you have ready this far, you have hopefully absorbed all the information necessary to serve as a functional, efficient Toxic Avenger. Bring pride to the Grandmasters, and always respect your ship and crewmen. Or else you'll get killed.
