I retired my orange vest...

15 years of daily wear is enough,

I guess.

The fabric is failing due to UV exposure ...

 

When I studied Italian, my 4th year professor, Dr Ricciardelli, was the head of the department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Dr Ricciardelli was a WWII priest in Italy.

After the war, they told him to leave Italy,

because the Italian Fascists wanted him dead.

He came to America, and after his Doctorate, taught at the University of Buffalo.

One day, we read a selection from Guareschi, and discussed it.

The Don Camillo story rang a bell...

My parents had a 1950:s vintage

Don Camillo book at home.

Bring it in ! Dr Ricciardelli asked.

The next class, I brought it to him.

 

He held the book for a minute,

then looked up shyly and said:

"... That's me...! "

.

Years after college, I saw Dr Ricciardelli

in a dreram. He was sitting 8n a Lawn chair,.

on a grassy hill, with a cool drink, and his traditional small cigar.

He looked at me..

You are on an entirely different level, he said.
