Bubble leak test equipment is used to test packages and pouches that require a contamination-free or sterile environment for their contents. This type of testing simulates conditions that the package may encounter during shipping and freight transport. This method is most commonly performed on heat-sealed packaging and pouches. However, it is also used for a variety of different materials and shapes, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

This method of testing involves submerging sealed packages underwater and observing the formation of bubbles around the edges. The bubbles indicate the presence of leaks, which can be located using a standard inspection procedure. While this method is widely employed, it has its disadvantages, such as long test times and low sensitivity. It is also subject to clogging by viscous food materials, and it requires the use of water that can potentially contaminate parts.

One solution is to use a bubble leak tester that uses Sherlock liquid leak detector to instantly identify leaks on the surface of a pack. This non-corrosive solution can also be applied to a package that has already been submerged, allowing users to see where leaks are occurring without having to perform another test.

This bubble leak testing method relies on the difference in pressure between the inside of a test package and the surrounding air to force air through any existing holes. It is a good fit for large and long packages that cannot be tested to other standards. This method is also useful for medical packaging, as it does not involve exposing the medical device to any external contaminants.
