What are the causes of Vulval Intraepithelial Neoplasia?

The actual etiology of Vulval Intraepithelial Neoplasia is unknown, although there are several risk factors that enhance the chances of getting VIN, which are :

  • The HPV virus: VIN is associated with over 100 strains and types 16 and 18. It is a common illness that is spread via sexual contact.

  • Weak immune system: Viruses such as HPV are often removed by the system unless the patient's immune system is compromised. This might occur as a result of poor lifestyle choices (such as smoking and drinking) or drugs that impair the immune system.

  • Other vulval disorders: Vulval lichen sclerosus (VLS) and lichen planus (VLP) are two diseases that might enhance your chance of getting VIN.
