Finland 600 MW Cable Cut...
On 25 December, Traficom's Cyber Security Centre received information about several power transmission and telecommunications cable breaks in the Gulf of Finland. The Cyber Security Centre has launched special monitoring of the incidents.
The broken cables are Fingrid's EstLink 2 power transmission cable running from Finland to Estonia and Elisa's submarine cables running from Helsinki to Tallinn. In addition, Cinia's submarine cable from Helsinki to Germany has been damaged between Helsinki and Hanko, and CITIC's submarine cable between Helsinki and Tallinn has been damaged.
Traficom, together with other authorities, operators and service providers, is currently investigating the course of events and the causes of the cable failures. The police have also launched a preliminary investigation into the matter. International cooperation is being carried out in the investigation.
