John Harold Thomas Snow (1911-2004) was a prominent Canadian artist and printmaker, born in Vancouver and later raised in Alberta. After a long banking career interrupted by service as a navigator in World War II, he developed a deep passion for art. Snow studied under Maxwell Bates and, along with Bates, salvaged lithographic presses, which became central to his artistic practice. He produced 410 lithographs and assisted other artists, earning a reputation for his rich and moody prints. A key figure in the modernist movement in Alberta, Snow was known for his mentorship and generosity toward younger artists. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major collections, including the National Gallery of Canada. He received the Alberta Order of Excellence in 1996 and passed away in 2004.
