Elon Musk, the new CEO of Twitter, said that Donald Trump is back online after a poll showed that users mostly favor his return.

Mr. Musk tweeted, “The people have spoken.” He said that 51.8% of the more than 15 million people who use Twitter voted for the ban to be lifted.

But the former US president may not return to the stage. He has said, “I don’t see any reason for it.”

Twitter shut down his account in 2021 because it could have led to violence.

The previous people in charge of Twitter did something just days after supporters of Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in Washington DC on January 6.

As the US Congress tried to confirm that Joe Biden won the presidential election, hundreds of protesters rushed into the building. Four civilians and one police officer were killed when the fighting broke out.

Soon after the riots, Donald Trump’s tens of millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube were also banned.

A few months later, he started Truth Social, his social media site.

The Republican said earlier this week that he would run for president again in 2024.

In October, Mr. Musk, the wealthiest person in the world, paid $44bn (£37bn) to buy Twitter.

People worry that he might make it easier for hate speech and false information to spread on Twitter, so he started making significant changes immediately.

He told employees earlier this week that he would close the company’s office buildings for the time being.

Reports say that many employees quit after Mr. Musk told them they had to agree to work “long hours at high intensity” or leave.

He told the people who follow him on Truth Social to vote in the poll.

Part of Mr. Trump’s problem is that fewer people are on Truth Social than on Twitter. App analysts at Sensor Tower thought that only 92,000 people had downloaded Truth Social in September. During the same time frame, close to 15 million people downloaded Twitter.

Mr. Trump wishes he still had his megaphone. His favorite app was Twitter, which he used to get people to support him and take over the news.

But he would reach many more people on Twitter, and he has a financial reason to want Truth Social to do well. Moreover, the Trump Media & Technology Group owns the app, and it’s hard to see how it could keep going if Trump went back to Twitter...Read More
